ISLAMABAD: A bill seeking enhancement of women judges in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) was referred to the committee concerned for further deliberation by the National Assembly on Tuesday.
While presenting an IHC Amendment Bill-2016 in the Parliament, Muttahida Quami Movement’s (MQM) lawmaker Saman Sultana Jafri said that women were not directly inducted in the Supreme Court (SC) but firstly appointed in the high court and then promoted further.
The Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid informed the parliamentarians that a bill regarding the enhancement of women representation in the SC had already been rejected by the standing committee. The NA speaker has referred the bill to the committee concerned.
Meanwhile, a bill seeking more amendments in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Ordinance was also been referred to the concerned committee for further consideration.
The bill was jointly presented by the MQM parliamentary leader Dr Farooq Sattar, Kanwar Naveed, Sheikh Salahuddin, Khalod Maqbool Siddiqui and Hussain Iqbal Noori. Moreover, other political parties in the Parliament also supported the ordinance.
