IPH and VUP join hands to promote preventive health

The Institute of Public Health (IPH) and Virtual University Pakistan (VUP) will collaborate and facilitate each other’s students as well as the teachers in strengthening/improving their academic qualification, Research and Education and capacity building & training of the staff. Both the institutions will extend help to promote Preventive Health. In this connection, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked on Monday between IPH and VUP, here at Birdwood Road. Chairman Board of Management IPH and former Governor Punjab Lt. Gen.(R) Khalid Maqbool and Rector VUP Naseem Tariq signed the MoU. Dean IPH Prof. Dr. Zarfishan Tahir and Dean VUP Prof. Dr. Masroor Elahi Bashir also signed the documents. While addressing the ceremony , Khalid Maqbool said that IPH endeavoring hard to promote preventive health and spread the health message amongst the masses, for which the Institute expanding collaboration with National as well as International Universities , Educational Institutions and World Health Organization to share each other experiences and launch joint programs of Research and Development in Health Sector.
Lt. Gen. (R) Khalid Maqbool stressed the need for educating the people and creating strong awareness regarding hygiene and preventive measures to build a healthy society. Rector VUP Naseem Tariq said that the university has open heartedly offered collaboration to the IPH for promoting Preventive health and to start joint ventures in research and education.
Dean VUP Prof. Dr. Masroor Elahi said that VUP has 0.2 million students which would be helpful for spreading Health Messages. He said that there is huge lack of cleanliness in our society and people totally ignored hygienic principles which are the teachings of Islam. He said that dirty bathrooms, garbage on the roadsides and poor sanitation is very common, due to that occurrence of diseases is very common. Dean IPH Prof. Dr. Zarfishan Tahir was of the view that MOU between IPH and VUP will go a long way for collaboration in the field of Graduate and Postgraduate education, training and research activities in various sectors of Public Health. She said that students and the staff of both the institutions will be the beneficiary of the Laboratories and other facilities.
Dr. Zarfishan Tahir further said that IPH will generate Health Messages which will be spreaded through Media channels of the University. VUP would also provide technical support to IPH for building On-line system.
MoU between IPH and VUP will be a mile-stone for promoting preventive health by controlling disease spread through collective efforts of both the institutions, she concluded.
